  New Hardware

The old P133 that allied.org used to live on is now gone. The best part about that machine was that it did not have any working fans in it yet it still had a pretty good average uptime. Below are some pictures of the old box, along with a picture of the new box.

  RIP Sockz

Well, it's better late than never on reporting this. Back in late May of 99, it was rumored the Sockz died in a car accident. Unfortunately, that rumor looks like it's true. Here is the report about the car accident:

Headline: Collision death toll climbs to four
Subhead: Two more teens die of Glen Arm crash

By John Murphy
SUN STAFF

Two more people died yesterday in the aftermath of a two-car collision near Glen Arm on Friday night that claimed the lives of a 17-year-old high school senior and a 69-year-old Baltimore County man, police said. The accident also injured a Timonium woman and her 15-month-old daughter.

Police said Loch Raven High senior Wayne Steven Weller Jr., who was to graduate yesterday, and two schoolmates -- Tara Berg and Sheila Rosner, both 16 -- were traveling south and exceeding the speed limit on Glen Arm Road about 8: 44 p.m. in Weller's 1995 Nissan Maxima when his car slid off the road, police said.

When Weller tried to pull back onto the road, his car swerved into the path of an oncoming 1995 Pontiac Bonneville, which was traveling north. The Bonneville slammed into the driver's side of Weller's car.

Weller of the 100 block of Roger Valley Court was pronounced dead at the scene. His two passengers were flown to Maryland Shock Trauma Center. Berg, who lived in the 2700 block of Superior Ave., died about 1 a.m. yesterday, and Rosner of the 4300 block of Conifer Court died about noon yesterday. The driver of the Bonneville, John Howard Edwards of the 5300 block of Hydes Road, died Friday at St. Joseph Medical Center. His two passengers, Lauren Brooke Greenbaum and her daughter, Lauren Greenbaum, both of the 800 block of Hillstead Drive, were taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital and treated for minor injuries.

Baltimore County police are investigating the accident and said toxicology tests are to be completed this week. Weller was ticketed for speeding on Interstate 695 at Route 43 a month ago, according to court records. Weller was charged with driving 79 mph in a 55-mph zone and fined $135.

A half-dozen Loch Raven High students gathered at the accident scene yesterday, creating a makeshift memorial with flowers beside a telephone pole. Skid marks and lines spray-painted by police marked the path of the two vehicles before they collided.

Classmates remembered Weller as a talented computer student and varsity soccer player. He was planning to attend Towson University in the fall. "He could always make everyone laugh," recalled Josh Gross, 16, a Loch Raven High junior.

Berg was a talented athlete who -- despite complications from asthma -- distinguished herself in field hockey, track and field, and karate as a red belt, said Jean Meconi, Berg's godmother.Berg was also accomplished in the classroom. She was an honor roll student every semester and had been accepted into the National Honor Society. A gifted artist, Berg was also a member of the National Art Honor Society and was exhibiting her work at the Maryland School for the Blind.

Despite her accomplishments, Berg never sought to be the center of attention, Meconi said. "If you ever thought of Tara, she was always in the background always being supportive and never giving attention to herself," Meconi said. "Tara never prejudged people. She was always there as a support mechanism for her family and friends. She's just a really happy kid."

Meconi said Berg, Rosner and Weller were returning from a trip to the store to buy a graduation gift for a friend. Berg is survived by her parents, Ken and Susan Berg, and a sister Jordan, 12. Weller's family declined to be interviewed yesterday. Rosner's family could not be reached for comment. Classmates mourning by the accident scene on Glen Arm Road yesterday remembered Rosner as a National Merit Scholar who, like Berg and Weller, was successful in high school.
